A Whole Lotta Good in 2017
We began our December All-Team Meeting by reflecting on some of the good things that happened in 2017. Of course, we executed some great work for our clients, but the WHY of what we do, may have been even more apparent in some of our extra activities. The HMI vision is to "elevate world happiness through the experience of horticulture". We hope that our love for what we do transcended the nuts and bolts of our daily work. Here's a little recap.....
NATIONAL COFFEE DAY
Our National Coffee Day celebration put that "first cup of coffee" smile on many people's faces. We began with an early morning e-blast to our clients that offered a free bag of Counter Culture coffee to the first 5 respondents. We loved promoting counterculturecoffee.com because of their mission "to create sustainability programs at the origin to push the potential for coffee to thrive in healthy, biodiverse environments while also supporting farmers who grow it and the communities they live in".
We also launched our monthly Kiva (Kiva.com) campaign by choosing to support micro-loans for two coffee farmers in Peru. One client and one employee were also given monies to donate to other loans in their name.
We loved having the opportunity to celebrate coffee beyond its place in our morning routine, and would like to think many people enjoyed their morning Joe just a little bit more that day!
ARBOR DAY
Scott, Karen, Jen and Juan Carlos celebrated Arbor Day by spending the morning at our local elementary school, spreading enthusiasm about horticulture. Karen explained the elements of landscape design and gave the students the opportunity to help us design the space around our new office building! Scott talked about tree biology and upped the "gross out" factor by finding mass quantities of gypsy moth caterpillars! Juan Carlos demonstrated tree climbing, and Jen taught the kids how to determine the age of a tree.
All kids went home with an Arbor Day t-shirt and their own sapling to plant at home!
SUPPORTING WAYPOINT ADVENTURE
HMI supported Waypoint Adventure's 1st annual Climb-a-Thon. Waypoint Adventure brings all kinds of adventure to people with physical challenges by providing adaptive equipment and dynamic outings. With the support of our amazing clients, we were able to raise more than $1000 for this event!
NATIONAL ACCREDITATION
HMI earned the respected title of TCIA Accreditation from the Tree Care Industry Association. This is an achievement made by only 5% of the tree care companies worldwide. We are proud to be amongst good company.
HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
We were proud to be involved in the Habitat for Humanity project in Holliston, MA. Our team removed some hazardous trees and hydroseeded the lawn in preparation for the homeowner's homecoming.
A NEW HOME!
HMI moved into a new office space on Main Street in Millis. It finally felt official when we hung the new sign.
COMMUNITY EVENTS
It's always fun to be involved in community events like "touch-a-truck". Families had great fun checking out some of our most interesting equipment and the bucket truck made quite a statement as it extended 70' into the blue sky!
